Lazio, a wine region, has been overshadowed by other, more prominent regions until recently, despite its rich viticultural history. In Lazio, we find well-known grapes such as Cesanese del Piglio and Cesanese d’Affile, as well as historical yet lesser-known varieties such as Bellone, Passerina del Frusinate, Capolongo, Pampanaro, and Nero Buono.
Cincinnato is a cooperative in Cori, Lazio, founded in 1947 and comprising 107 growers, half of whom are organic, who cultivate 100 hectares. An interesting aspect is that they pay their growers based on quality parameters, rather than volume. They are dedicated to safeguarding the environment and try to be as sustainable as possible.
Did you know that the Cincinnato Winery has been named after the Roman politician and military leader Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus? According to the legend, he had an estate in Cori in the fifth century B.C. Read more in Cincinnato, A Cooperative in Lazio Focused on Native Grapes.
